Job Summary
The Production Optimization and Forecasting Supervisor leads Freeport LNG’s effort to operate its integrated production facility — the Oyster Creek Pretreatment Facility (PTF) and the Quintana Liquefaction Facility (LQF) to its true constraints, safely maximizing throughput and overall facility performance. Leading a team of engineers, the Supervisor turns plant performance data into optimization opportunities, drives the tracking of the metrics that define facility success — Reliability, Availability, and Utilization (RAU), among others — and owns the production forecasting that informs commercial and operational decisions across the company.
This role sits at the intersection of Operations, Engineering, and Commercial, giving the incumbent broad cross-functional exposure and a direct line of sight into how the entire facility creates value. It interfaces internally with the Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Commercial, LNG Marketing, Finance, and Commercial Operations departments, and externally with third-party gas suppliers, as required.
The Supervisor reports to the Vice President of Operations, provides periodic reporting to executive management and stakeholders, and takes on ad-hoc projects assigned by senior management. The role coordinates closely with Operations and Commercial Managers, to ensure consistency and operational excellence across both sites.
Location/Travel Information
This position is based in the Lake Jackson/Freeport area and will occasionally travel to off-site locations as required. The incumbent must hold a valid, unexpired driver’s license at all times to perform the essential functions of the job.
Duties and Responsibilities
Facility Optimization & Throughput
- Drive the safe optimization of the integrated facility (PTF + LQF), identifying and running to the true constraints that limit throughput and performance.
- Provide optimization guidance and recommendations to operating facilities on operational practices and controls to maximize production.
- Lead weekly opportunity-and-threat reviews with site personnel; prioritize production threats and opportunities across departments and drive risk-management follow-through.
- Propose and collaborate with Engineering on performance tests to optimize production or resolve process-related incidents.
- Develop, support, and conduct process simulations with Engineering and Operations to investigate steady-state responses in support of diagnostics, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Participate in the strategy and implementation of plant capital projects that unlock additional capacity or efficiency.
Performance Monitoring & KPIs
- Oversee the team’s tracking, analysis, and reporting of key facility KPIs — Reliability, Availability, Utilization, and others — and translate trends into action.
- Implement, monitor, maintain, and analyze daily and monthly performance reports in close coordination with Operations, Engineering, and Commercial.
- Monitor both sites for production threats and maintenance activities that could impact forecasted volumes; ensure awareness and mitigation plans are in place across departments.
- Support daily panel walkarounds — top-10 alarms, short- to medium-term trends requiring action, verifying MOCs and their impact, and confirming daily production targets.
- Contribute to the development and tracking of plant KPIs and supply the required data for benchmarking studies.
Production Forecasting
- Prepare and manage the models and capacity inputs for the LNG cargo Annual Delivery Program (ADP) and short-term forecasting.
- Support the energy-balance process and tools as required.
- Assist with coordinating gas-scheduling activities with LNG vessel scheduling and terminal operations functions.
- Identify fuel-gas and makeup-gas needs within the terminal and notify Production Planning and Commercial focal points accordingly.
- Work closely with terminal operations to ensure nominated daily gas volumes and production goals are achieved.
- Ensure Operations and Engineering requirements and limits are reflected in forecasting processes.
- Interact with external stakeholders, including customers and upstream pipeline representatives, as required.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers — setting goals, planning and organizing work, and continually investing in the talent pool of the department.
- Coach and develop Operations personnel as required.
Process Support, Safety & Technical Studies
- Support plant Operations personnel in troubleshooting process issues, including Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) reviews and raising engineering support requests.
- Understand and participate in the technical Management of Change (MOC) process.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), HAZOP reviews, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) to ensure safety in design and facility operations.
- Participate in incident investigations — analyzing equipment, system, and procedure failures and deviations, and providing solutions and corrective actions to root causes.
- Participate in other process-safety and technical studies (e.g., alarm management) and serve as a technical resource in audits.
- Contribute to and continually develop the Annual Operating Review Meeting (AROM) inputs and content.
- Interact with Commercial Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and other departments to ensure appropriate process data and analyses support the Company’s business objectives.
- Coordinate closely with the laboratory to ensure methods, limits, and sample schedules provide the correct feedback for production, engineering, energy balance, commercial, and process test-runs.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
Minimum Experience
- 3+ years of engineering experience, preferably in LNG, natural gas processing, refining, petrochemical, or a similar continuous-process operating environment.
- Prior supervisory experience is a plus but not required — this role is intentionally structured as a first leadership opportunity with mentorship and support.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or industrial engineering.
- Exposure to production optimization, process modeling, planning, or forecasting.
- Familiarity with LNG and/or gas-treatment processes and with planning, scheduling, and forecasting tools.
- Interest in or exposure to process safety management methodologies (HAZOP, LOPA, and other forms of PHA).

- Understanding of plant economics, including participation in OPEX and CAPEX budgets (a plus).
- Strong commitment to HSE, with the ability to inspire and lead others.
HSE Roles and Responsibilities
Support the policies, efforts, and programs of Freeport LNG Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System. Actively participate in the HSE Management System Policies. Ensure that HSE concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility. Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.
